Song of the Day: Simple Desire by All Mankind
Lyric of the Day: I don’t wanna be alone no more.
What are you afraid of? It’s not a rhetorical question. What are you afraid of?
Let’s get raw with ourselves for a minute here. It’s time to be honest with yourself. Are you afraid of being alone? Are you afraid of being disliked? Are you afraid of being overweight? Are you afraid of failing? Are you afraid of running out of money?
Sit with this for a while. Blast this song and sit in the emotion long enough to develop it. Feel the emotion in your body. See the emotion in front of you. Let it take shape, color, texture. Allow it a personality. And then have a conversation with your emotion, your fear.
Take your fear on a little field trip. Take him to the point of destruction, to the verge of collapse. Take your fear straight into the apocalypse and get honest with the worst case scenario. Let your fear get big and scary and real. And then come back down. Drop him off on the side of the highway on the way home. Come back to us.
The opposite of fear is love.
Our fears get so big and scary because of this lovely little thing called the law of attraction. When you allow your fear to come home with you, it invites more in. We’ve all woken up some morning, tripped over a shoe, thought “today sucks!” and then experienced a horrible day. Fear creates more fear. Lucky for you, the opposite of fear is love.
The easiest way to eradicate fear is to pinpoint and identify it. What makes you scared? What happened in your life that made you scared? If your fear were the fear of your 12-year-old son or daughter (imaginary or real), how would you help them? Show that same compassion to yourself.
Feeling afraid? Love. Feeling alone? Love. Feeling inadequate? Love.
Love yourself, just try. Love your family, just try. Love that guy on the street, just try. Love your friends, just try. When you feel the fear, repeat in your head, “I’m willing to see this differently” and move into the love. Choose to love.
